An Unbelievable Adventure (#340)

I never imagined this would be my present. Never could I have guessed this would be how the first 24 years of life would play out. I’ve tried to plan for everything and anticipate the different outcomes, to no avail. I’ve pleaded with the Universe to hear me out and still no luck.

I think that’s what makes life so special. The outcome will never be as important as the process itself. The end result is almost never the end result. Every day we can begin again. Every day we can use gratitude to remind us of what we’ve accomplished and how far we’ve come.

I hope you realize your own adventure is just beginning. You’ll find that change is just around the corner and through patient perseverance, I know you can make the most of it. We have an opportunity to celebrate life and appreciate those we share it with. It all starts with us.

In The Future… (#339)

Day after day, the unexpected arrives. We can plan all we like but the future is full of the unknown. We have hopes and ambitious dreams that make us look forward in time.

An iconic line from the classic Forrest Gump rings true, “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get”.

While we’re busy making plans for the future, we miss out on the here and now. My head gets lost in a cloud of thoughts and fears if I try to look to far ahead. I begin to stray from my present moment and lose sight of what I have in the here and now.

Because life will always be a series of unexpected twists and turns, we can let go of trying to anticipate what the future may hold. Of course, make goals, plan your day, but don’t lose yourself to what ifs and future fears.

We can use gratitude to ground ourselves in the here and now. Each day can be a blessing of life. Each day can be opportunity to try and change things. I say this knowing there are those worse off than me. After traveling to corners of the Earth, I know that’s not true for everyone. Despite this, these people are vivacious and animated. They support their families and go on living.

Maybe I’m just rambling. Maybe you have your own philosophy and outlook on the future. Whatever it is, gratitude brought us here first and I believe it’s important we honor that with a couple deep breaths and patient thinking.

Courage Out Loud (#338)

Expressing myself has seemingly always been difficult. I’m introverted and anxious so the combo doesn’t always mix well when people want me to share how I’m feeling or what’s on my mind. I see my friends try these things. I see people I look up to live their lives with unmistakable bravery and ferocity. They know who they are and their confidence shines as a result.

Even though I may not be where I want to, I’m Grateful I’ve come this far. It used to be worse, I remind myself. Confidence to me is an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a belief in self that doesn’t stretch for the past or reach for the future. Confidence is courage out loud.

Starting Each Day (#337)

Unsurprisingly, I have a routine for this too. The first two things I do when I wake up is drink water and write my gratitude. I’ll recount some of the major moments and so my best to include them in my gratitude list. I’ve had to wake up early for work so luckily I can catch the sunrise if I’m lucky. If I have the time I make my bed and get something to eat.

The main point is, regardless of how you start your day, whatever time that may be, you can start it with gratitude. Gratitude for the things that get you going. Gratitude for new opportunities that accompany each day. Gratitude for the little things that make a big difference.

A Fresh Start (#336)

Every day is a new chance to get started. Each sunrise brings new color and opportunity to our lives. A chance to grow and to learn. Not every day will be our best day but that’s to be expected. At the same time, life is full of awesome surprises and incredible moments worth living. It’s up to us how we choose to make the most of each fresh start.

Will you redefine yourself today?

Will you find new ways to step outside your comfort zone?

Will you nail down a routine that helps you accomplish your goals?

Will you overcome a lifelong fear?

Will you share gratitude with the people you love?

It’s all up to you and there’s no wrong answer.

Give My Everything (#335)

Picture this:

The star athlete wins the game at the buzzer after an incredible comeback. They do their post game interview and say it took everything they had to win the game. Coach asked for 120% effort and they knew they had to perform…

I apologize for the bad sports analogy but how do you give more than everything you have? I make it my mission to give my everything to gratitude and patience. I know the best is yet to come if I have those two things in mind always. If I give my energy to positive thinking and action that helps me accomplish my goals, then I know I’m doing all I can to be the best version of myself.

Taking Responsibility (#334)

A quote from Man’s Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankl

Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems.

Even during the worst days of the Holocaust, Frankl speaks about personal accountability and in power that comes from within. We must have gratitude for our process. For the lessons we’ve learned and the challenges we’ve overcome. It is our responsibility to live a life full of purpose and kindness.
