Living In The Present (#153)

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a week since I arrived in Europe but wow has so much happened. Every day has brought something new and exciting. I’m eternally grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait for what’s to come. It was really great being able to FaceTime with some of my friends tonight and reflect. I moved into my Essex apartment today, meaning I finally have a permanent place to stay for the first time at the same time I’ve been abroad. Travel is fun but also incredibly draining. Tomorrow’s sun will bring new life and new opportunities.

Featured image of the historically famous Anfield stadium. Tomorrow my team play in the Champions League Final and I can’t wait!! It’ll be a hell of a game whatever the result and I can’t wait to support them. Grateful for the games they’ve played and the joy they’ve brought me. One more boys, let’s go and bring home a 6th European title.

At My Own Pace (#152)

As much as I love structure, I’ve really enjoyed wandering around London. Today, I took the tube to a random station and just started walking! I came across the British Public Library and got my Reading Pass as a nice souvenir and hopefully something I can use again in the future.

This mentality has helped me feel far more comfortable exploring Brixton and the surrounding area. England could really feel like home if I spent enough time here. I finally move into Essex tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s another area to explore and make my own and I’m really looking forward to it. This trip has been incredible so far and I’m grateful I’ve been able to take my time and do this at my own pace.

A Day Well Spent (#150)

After more than 25,000 steps with my friend Stenie we navigated our way from Brixton to London and had ourselves a fantastic day. We caught up, laughed, enjoyed the sun and did the most American thing ever by getting fish and chips by the London eye. It was marvelous.

I’ve been doing more research on gratitude and found some really interesting stuff. The science behind “positive psychology” is still evolving but something I’m hoping to incorporate more into the blog going forward. There are leading researchers and experts on gratitude I would love to interview and exchange thoughts with that I’ll post here as well! I would love to make this more interactive because I know for me, Gratitude isn’t just about the individual, it’s about the culmination of feeling.

With 150 lists now under my belt, I’m feeling motivated with June right around the corner.

Trying New Things (#148)

The old me would have stayed in my room and watched movies till my back hurt from laying down.

What I ended up doing today was far more fun. I walked around, I asked questions, I even stayed out past dark. Because my phone doesn’t connect to the Internet I have no map or direction other than what I remember for landmarks. Getting home felt like a sense of accomplishment to top off a really great day.

It only makes me more excited to share this with people when they visit this summer.

Embracing Change (#147)

I made it. This morning I was in Iceland and via trains, planes, and automobiles, I’ve made my way to Liverpool.

Being in Iceland was a great experience but I needed to end my trip short. The whole time I was there I kept asking myself, “why am I here?”, “what am I searching for?”. I wasn’t going to find those answers by climbing mountains or trekking through snow. I spent a lot of my time in the car by myself and felt like I would be wasting my time if I didn’t make a change. The country is beautiful but another 4 days of solitude driving across the country wasn’t something I wanted to put myself through. I look forward to the day I can come back and share it with someone else!

Getting from Iceland to England was no easy task but there were so many people who helped me along the way. I know I’m just some stranger and most of these people were just doing their job but I really am grateful for all the direction and patience. This is my first time doing any of this and I’m so thankful I made it safely. I may have been by myself but checking in and talking to my family was the reassurance I needed.

I can’t WAIT for what this summer holds and I’m really looking forward to what comes next.

One More Day (#144)

I find myself getting anxious as I prepare for my summer abroad. I’ve had a hard time planning and packing but it’s a relief to know flights, car, and hostels are all booked for Iceland. Of course I’m stressed about going on vacation but I know as soon as I land I can take a deep breath and just be present. One more day but first recognize and be grateful for the day I just had.
