What’s Your Self Care Look Like? (#226)

Today was perfect. I spent the day at the beach with my mom and brother, enjoying the sun and the water. We walked from the tiny home a family friend has leant us and made the most of every second here today. We got ice cream with my dad and told old stories we’ve each heard a thousand times before.

To me, this was exactly what I needed after getting back from England. I wasn’t stressed about work or school, I was just here in this moment. This for me is self care. Spending time with the people I love. I feel reinvigorated and truly cherish the time I get with my parents and siblings.

An Old Friend (#221)

Growing up, I tried desperately to fit in with certain people. I would let them push me around and make me feel worthless and un-worthy of this real love or friendship. PJ was someone who never did that.

We lived down the street so we would always carpool together to and from both games and practices. My dad coached so it only made sense that he come along. PJ always treated me with respect and is undoubtedly my oldest friend to this day. From long car rides after games to summer jobs landscaping, we’ve done a lot. Now, he’s here in England and it’s different.

We’re not those same kids anymore and I’m glad. We’ve both grown so much I’m proud of our progress. We’re at two very different points in the journey. He has just arrived and is looking forward to taking advantage of his two weeks in Europe. I on the other hand, am looking forward to being home. The next few days together will be interesting to say the least but I’m grateful our paths continue to cross and we can share this experience together.

Featured image isn’t of PJ but it’s of a fresh perspective of a familiar place. Mt. Tolmie in Washington is important to me but a place I try and look at with fresh eyes. The same is true for my friend PJ’s visit. We have old memories I’m happy to be looking at with fresh eyes.

    Opening Up (#218)

I never thought this blog would become what it has. Being honest with myself and putting it out there for the internet to read was scary at first. I’m grateful for the support I’ve found online and the perspective I’ve gained from sharing gratitude. I look forward to my post every night and I truly am grateful for gratitude.

    The Things I Can’t Control (#208)

I can work hard 9-5, type until my hands and wrists are fatigued. I can actively reach out to my friends when I’m in need of support. But, there are things in life we can’t control.

I’m grateful when those things not only go well but highlight meaning or purpose. It’s important for me to recognize them as a higher power, the Universe, to strengthen my belief in what I can’t explain. Sometimes these signs are worth listening to and sometimes I just feel lucky. Whatever the reason may be, I’m grateful to be exactly where I am.

Featured image of department building over looking the pond. I work in a really special place with some really awesome people. I’ve really enjoyed Colchester and Essex for a lot of reasons and it’s only day 1. I’m excited for what the rest of the summer will bring.

    At My Own Pace (#152)

As much as I love structure, I’ve really enjoyed wandering around London. Today, I took the tube to a random station and just started walking! I came across the British Public Library and got my Reading Pass as a nice souvenir and hopefully something I can use again in the future.

This mentality has helped me feel far more comfortable exploring Brixton and the surrounding area. England could really feel like home if I spent enough time here. I finally move into Essex tomorrow and I couldn’t be more excited. It’s another area to explore and make my own and I’m really looking forward to it. This trip has been incredible so far and I’m grateful I’ve been able to take my time and do this at my own pace.
