Promise Yourself (#354)

“To be so strong that nothing
can disturb your peace of mind.
To talk health, happiness, and prosperity
to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel
that there is something in them
To look at the sunny side of everything
and make your optimism come true.

To think only the best, to work only for the best,
and to expect only the best.
To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others
as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past
and press on to the greater achievements of the future.
To wear a cheerful countenance at all times
and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself
that you have no time to criticize others.
To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,
and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.

To think well of yourself and to proclaim this fact to the world,
not in loud words but great deeds.
To live in faith that the whole world is on your side
so long as you are true to the best that is in you.”

The Work Starts Now (#353)

It’s important to recognize how far we’ve come. We can use gratitude when looking back at the adversities we overcome and the lesson’s we have learned. To get where we want to go, what we have done isn’t enough.

Success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

We must continue. We must keep fighting, keep moving towards our goals. Then we can use gratitude for what keeps us going.

Valentine’s Day (#352)

For many years, I was “alone” on Valentine’s Day. A Hallmark holiday that ultimately made me feel worse about my relationship status more than anything else. This year, a friend opened my eyes to a new perspective.

Valentine’s Day is about spreading love celebrating the heart. It’s not about if you’re dating anyone or going to the fanciest candlelight restaurant. The day is about gratitude for those you care about most. That’s something I can get behind.

It’s About The Process (#351)

Lifelong learning is not something that just happens over night. It is trials and tribulations, tests and practice that helps us learn important lessons and skills. For me gratitude takes practice too.

I may not have the best day every day but I can try my hardest to have a better day after. I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned and the support I’ve received. I know that I’m not alone and that asking for help goes a long way. I didn’t always know this. It’s been something I have picked up because of mistakes and honest conversation. Ultimately, all I can do is try my best. The rest will figure itself out. It’s a process.

Hope and Gratitude (#350)

Like a sweet duet, finely balanced in perfect harmony, hope and gratitude bring us to the present.

Hope – a positive energy focused towards the future. A belief that things will get better with time.

Gratitude – a chance to recognize the best of what was. Found surprisingly in both the big things and the little things.

A balance of the two allow us to live in the here and now. Gratitude for what brought us here and hope in what’s to come.

Precious Time (#349)

Time is a mysterious thing. Some days feel long and arduous. Other days fly by in the blink of an eye. Life is short but made up of an infinite number of moments and seconds when you add it up. Eric Roth says,

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again.

I think I’ve learned that anything is possible with gratitude. As our lives change, as we dream of new dreams, gratitude can be our constant. If time is relative then let gratitude be our anchor. Tie it to the best things in your life. Little things, big things, it does not matter. I’m grateful for the time I have and life I live. Just trying to remember to take it one day at a time.

It Must Be A Balance (#348)

What a week it’s been!

I’ve certainly had my work cut out for me but I know my semester is just beginning. It was only a couple days ago my week started with watching Tom Brady win his sixth Super Bowl with my family. When Bill Belicheck was asked if he thought about retirement, he responded with joy. He said,

It’s about trust.

“There is an old saying about the strength of the wolf is the pack, and I think there is a lot of truth to that. On a football team, it’s not the strength of the individual players, but it is the strength of the unit and how they all function together.”

It’s about being present.

“To live in the past is to die in the present.”

It’s about growth.

“I think that we’ll continue to try to look at ourselves in the mirror and see where we can do a better job, maybe where we can improve the process. But I think the fundamentals of the process will remain the same.”

Life must be a balance as gratitude is something that ties it all together. We are capable of anything through continual growth and patient perseverance. Gratitude can be your fuel. It can re-energize you after a long week. I am grateful for a lot, but being here in this moment, is what matters most.
